It's all about fine tuning. Injection gives too much fuel and as the result we have a bon-fire in the exhaust manifold. Of course, it gives a terrific power and torque boost, but the engine is not indestructible. Lower your fuel/air mixture, or reduse the pressure, or your valves will share the same fate as exhaust 
Here in Portugal Diesel engine tuning is very advanced!
1.9TDi (VAG) engines reach 300-350Bhp, 1.6HDi (PSA) reach 200-220Bhp, 1.7CDTi (Opel) will do 230-240Bhp... Even older Corsa 1.5Td reach 200bhp!
My plans on the long run are to reach ~160-170Bhp, ~320Nm.
